Achieve Your Most Productive Day at your 9 to 5 Career
Reading through a lot of articles about success and productive in the work place has a bit of bias towards entrepreneurs or people who work from home. This is a great relief since there’s a lot of self discipline that goes into those career paths! But what about the nine to fiver or the swing shift? How do you stay productive when you don’t have a lot of wiggle room with what you do on a daily basis?
I’ve worked in a slew of jobs that weren’t flexible or very employee-time friendly, for that matter. Customer service, sales, banking (which I still do not know why I ever thought that was something I would like!) All of these jobs were super structured, leaving little room for out-of-the-box scheduling.
If you’re in a structured career, you’re probably wondering how in the world do you get ahead and stay productive? It’s completely possible, but it does take some creativity to get there!
Since every career is different, this article is for people who don’t have the option to work from home and work a structured time.
Just because your work is structured, doesn’t mean that you have to come home and be exhausted from being dragged around all day. Or even worse, have that wheel-spinning feeling!
To be honest, I’ve had this article written down for years now because it really helped me get through the toughest times when I worked in a more structured environment. I know that with this you’ll see your days reclaimed.
We’ll go over ways to make your work-day more productive and how to be successful in your 9-to-5 career! I’ve also designed a workbook for you to try this out for a week, to see if it’s something that works for you!

Break Down Your Day
It’s so easy to lump work into one major category on your schedule. From 9-5, your schedule just says “work” and everyone accepts that’s the way it is. Not for us, by-golly!
Take your typical work day and dive into your tasks. If you’re in the service industry, for example, write down what it looks like with each client. Think of this as explaining your job title to someone who has no clue what you do but is very interested!
The more specific you are you, the better!
What’s the “Norm”
Dive into your normal day at work. When you arrive, what’s the first thing you need to do? Write your tasks down that you’ve listed from above into each line, hour by hour.
If you have a task that is consistent throughout the day, for example: answering phones, then write that each hour!
The goal is to find time for the item below. The big one, the one that’s going to give you the productive edge at work!
Pick Your Daily Three
Now this, this!
This will sky rocket your day into productivity world-record book! What, there isn’t one? Well, there should be and your name is going to be in there if you implement this!
After you’ve looked at your day, broken it down by tasks, plugged those tasks in, now it’s time to list your top three for the day. These are things that you want to accomplish in your work day.
These could be big or they could be small, but you need three each day.
If you’re working on a big project that you want to look at in a different light or revise, that’s a top three for the day! If you want to close a big sale with a client you’ve been meaning to talk to, that’s a top three too!
In the space in your workbook, list out what steps you can take each hour to achieve your top three. With your daily tasks already planned out throughout the day, plugging these action steps for your top three into your day will be a piece of cake!
Don’t forget to snag your free, printable workbook! This let’s you see your day planned out in an easy format, so you can make the most of your day and be productive.
