Not only have essential oils been proven time and time again to promote health and wellness in a variety of ways, but it is one of the easiest ways to incorporate self care into your daily routine.

Even if you’re plugging away at your desk, you can seamlessly add all of the benefits of essential oils into your schedule without having to set it on your to-do list.

I’ve been on the hunt for a sustainable, high quality essential oils that were going to do what I needed to do in my own practice. When I was burned out, I wanted to experience the true benefits of the essential oil, not a whole bunch of preservatives and additives.

Background With Essential Oils

Essential oils have always been apart of my bodywork practice with clients for over the past decade.

With so many benefits of just inhaling and tapping into the subconscious mind, my clients began to feel more benefits from not only their bodywork but also in their thoughts afterwards.

When I first discovered Rocky Mountain Oils, I had found the match that I was searching for . After starting with their lemongrass in my bodywork practice, I noticed the immediate benefits.

Lemongrass is one of the best essential oils that will help to relax tense, stiff muscles. Even just putting a few drops into your favorite carrier oil will help to ease built up tension.

Sometimes with heavily mixed essential oils, you’ll notice that they don’t dissolve in a diffuser at an even pace. Usually you’ll notice that they have a powerful, strong scent for the first 10-15 minutes and dwindle down noticeably.

How Essential Oils Work

Scientific studies have shown that by inhaling essential oils, nerves in the nose trigger powerful brain responses. Similarly, topical application allows these essential oils to quickly enter the bloodstream by being absorbed through skin tissue.

Our sense of smell is 10,000 more powerful than any other sense and the recognition of smell is immediate. Other senses, like touch, travel to the brain via the spinal cord. Smell is also the strongest link to the subconscious mind and also to our collective unconscious mind where memories are stored.

There are three main ways to use essential oils: diffusion, topical application and household. However you implement your essential oils into your routine, you’re adding benefit without adding time.

Diffusion

One of the most effective ways to use essential oils is with diffusion. Just set it and forget it type of easy!

Diffusers are so easy and a natural way to fill your home with scents that are working side by side with promoting your health and well-being.

When you’re first starting out on your self care routine, setting up a diffuser with some of your favorite scents is one of the easiest places to start.

In your diffuser, fill it up with water to the recommended line, put 5-10 drops (more or less as needed) into the diffuser and then turn it on.

The ultrasonic technology produces vibrations at a high frequency, turning the water into mist. As you breathe in the aromatic mist, the oil's beneficial properties are immediately absorbed into your body.

Quick, easy benefits without having to pencil anything extra into your schedule.

If you’re looking for a diffuser to get you started, I really enjoy using my Droplet Diffuser. It covers up to 400 square-feet (37 square-meters) and stays on for about 6 hours.

I also use this diffuser for our upstairs when I need a whole house cleanse. Both of them together really help to break up any stuffiness and give a really thorough experience wherever we are in the house.

Carrier Oils for topical

Anytime you’re applying your essential oils onto your skin, it’s important to mix in your drops or mixture with a carrier oil.

Essential oils by themselves are powerful and are more concentrated than the dried herbs themselves. Because essential oils are authentic and pure, their high levels of concentration can irritate the skin when applied without a carrier oil.

Carrier oils do not limit the effectiveness of the essential oil in any way; they just safely transfer the oil to your skin.

Cedarwood essential oil has natural sedative properties which can combat insomnia. Its aroma elevates the release of serotonin in the brain which converts to melatonin and encourages restful sleep and a peaceful mind.

Eucalyptus

One of my favorite essential oils for colds and allergies. Especially around the change of seasons, I make it a priority to include it in with my skincare routine for prevention as well as around our home.

I use this in my diffuser when the pollen counts go up and congestion becomes a regular ailment. Adding this powerful essential oil into our diffuser helps to soothe irritated sinuses.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil is excellent for reducing inflammation of the mucous membranes, thinning mucous in the sinus cavities and opening up the airways to help you find relief from blocked sinuses.

It is a natural antiseptic with antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties making it highly effective in treating wounds, minor cuts, acne, boils, insect bites, skin infections and more.

Eucalyptus not only helps to kill bacteria, but also to dry the blemished area and provide healing relief to irritated skin. This property is a perfect match for those who battle acne.

Essential Oils Blends

If you’re not into blending or may not feel comfortable blending your essential oils right off the bat, I love having essential oil blends that is going to give me exactly what I need from it.

The convenience of using a blend over mixing your own is one of the top reasons why I love having a few blends already done for me. Mixing up a blend can take some time and requires a little bit of experience. If you’re new to using these types of oils, buying a blend might be a great choice for you.

When you have a bottle of pre-blended essential oils, it’s just a case of grabbing it off the shelf and throwing a few drops into whatever you’re making or in the diffuser. Super simple and a completely stress free way of using a blended oil.

Below are my top three favorite picks that I always like to keep on hand.

ALIGNING

The Aligning Blend has become one of my favorites to use on days where I just feel all over the place. Days where I just feel like I can’t catch up. This blend is calm in a bottle and instantly centers my emotions. Even just a quick inhalation from the bottle on my desk brings about peace and relaxation.

Aligning is also my go-to when I need help building my courage, confidence, and self-esteem. I carried my bottle with me on a tough day where I just was feeling the extra push of social anxiety and had to venture out.

Rosewood, Spruce, Frankincense, and Blue Tansy in a base of 75% Fractionated Coconut Oil is what you’ll get in Aligning. Rocky Mountain Oils have one of the longest lasting fractionated coconut oil that they research and carry. And no coconut smell to mix into your blends, hooray!

If you’re looking for calming support in a bottle, the Aligning Blend is one to try!

TRANQUILITY

I can’t say enough good things about the Tranquility Blend. My goodness, this blend is not your Grandma’s Tranquility blends that I’ve experienced before. This little bottle is powerful in it’s soothing qualities, and RMO wasn’t kidding when they marked this as a sleep aid blend.

In this amazingly unique blend, there’s Orange, Tangerine, Patchouli, Lime, Blue Tansy, Ylang Ylang, Lavender, and Citronella essential oils.

I put on this blend in my diffuser before my evening meditation and was completely floored at how effective it was at just soothing my thoughts, relaxing my shoulders after a long day, and so on. This blend really helped to provide a deeper meditation session with little “fidget time,” which I’m notorious for.

FORTIFY

And last, but certainly not least, one of my daily blends that are always running in the background on the diffuser is the Fortify blend. This blend is an earthy scent that is as much balancing as it is energizing.

In this herby-earthy blend, RMO crafted together Frankincense, Juniper Berry, Nutmeg, Holy Basil, Ravintsara, Rosemary, Oregano, Ginger Root, Blue Tansy, Black Cumin, Clove Bud, and Hyssop in a base of 66% Fractionated Coconut Oil. This blend has a nice clean scent that meshes well for daily use and doesn’t overpower the room.

Just having this blend run throughout the day helps to clear out any mental blocks that I may have and help to give me a boost of motivation by encouraging me to relax and take a few breaths.
